This book is–like The INFJ Revolution and Your Rainforest Mind–a book written by bloggers who gained popularity discussing the unique experiences of highly sensitive people (HSPs). It acts as a short of self-help book, but it is more important for the way it validates personal experiences and brings attention to sensitivity.
The chapters break down into subjects like relationships, the workplace, friendships, and so on. In this way, it is very similar to You Mean I’m Not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy?!, but the topic is obviously a bit different.
To be entirely honest, I’m not wholly convinced that to be “highly sensitive” is a coherent category that defines any group of people. Undoubtedly, some people are more sensitive than others, while others are less sensitive than the norm. However, it seems to me far more likely to be a spectrum, where those on either far side have experiences that differ in the scale of the intensity, rather than something qualitatively different.
Even so, the book was highly readable, and comforting enough to read before bed. This is a good touchstone for those curious, but you won’t find anything groundbreaking here.
