On Destiny Disrupted

Ansary, Tamim. Destiny Disrupted: A History of the World Through Islamic Eyes. New York: PublicAffairs, 2010. pp. 416. Paperback.

There are some problems in descriptions of Arabization, discussions of the three modernist nineteenth century ideologies in the Islamic (e.g. how Tanzimat functioned), but overall this is a decent overview of Islamic history. I would have liked to see how Muslims interacted with other parts of the world (i.e. Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and East Asia) rather than simply Europe, but the book is ambitious enough as it is, and the choice to omit these interactions are understandable.
