Becker, Annette and Stephane Audoin-Rouzeau. 14-18: Understanding the Great War. New York: Hill and Wang, 2014. pp. 288. Paperback.
This is a good book, but not for a general overview of World War I. Instead, it’s main use is to teach readers to think about the war in different ways and ask new questions. How did soldiers experience pain, grief, and trauma? What was mobilization like? Was it popular, were people opposed? For a general history of World War I, it may be better to look somewhere else.
