On Provincializing Europe
Chakrabarty, Dipesh. Provincializing Europe: Postcolonial Thought and Historical Difference - New Edition. Princeton, NJ: Princeton University Press, 2007. pp. 336. Paperback.
Really important work with numerous insights (our problem with eurocentrism cannot be overcome until we are willing to accept that philosophies and political movements from Europe are not fundamentally universal). The downside is that it’s littered with post-Marxist bullshit and dense continental philosophy, so it really is incredibly dense. Nonetheless, most academic lectures and discussions of how to do non-Western history has relied on this book as a bedrock, so it really is important.
