On the World Keeps Ending, and the World Goes On
Choi, Franny. The World Keeps Ending, and the World Goes On. New York: Ecco, 2022. pp. 144. eBook. $12.99.
This is a surprisingly good poetry collection. I pick up recently published poetry from time to time and don’t normally love it, but Choi’s book is different. All the trendy topics of 2022 are here — the recognition of difference and diversity, the attempts to “touch grass,” the search for meaning when the world doesn’t make sense — and while I don’t know how well the individual poems hold up in verse and meter, the imagery was beautiful. Even so, I think this one will be forgotten in ten years, regrettably; it feels very much a product of its moment, which I do think is valuable, but I’m not sure future readers will agree.
