On Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude

I wasn’t deeply impressed by this collection. My favorites were “Ode to Buttoning and Unbuttoning My Shirt,” “Ode to the Puritan in Me,” “To My Big Friend’s Sister,” and “Weeping.” On the whole, though, it was fairly forgettable. The figs recur often enough that — as How to Read Literature Like a Professor would have it — they probably mean something; I suspect a loss of innocence, or something along those lines.
