On the Prophet

Gibran’s book is a modern classic of collected wisdom. The metaphors largely draw on Christian symbolism but diverge sharply from the Abrahamic faiths, at times seeming to have more in common with eastern traditions; his Lebanese Christian upbringing is evident throughout. Be warned, though — it’s better to take your time with it, because if you read too quickly you’ll miss a lot.
