On Driven to Distraction
Hallowell, Edward M. and John J. Ratey. Driven to Distraction: Recognizing and Coping with Attention Deficit Disorder. Revised ed. New York: Anchor, 2011. pp. xviii + 382. eBook. $14.99.
This is one of the better books I’ve read on ADHD. I’d previously worked through Taking Charge of Adult ADHD and You Mean I’m Not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy?!, and neither comes near Hallowell’s strengths. It’s comprehensive without bogging down in detail — where Taking Charge read exactly like a string of online articles and You Mean I’m Not Lazy was wishy-washy and never said anything significant, Hallowell’s is both professional and genuinely useful, and the case studies are illuminating. It should probably be the first stop for anyone curious about ADHD.
