On the Hundred Years' War on Palestine
Khalidi, Rashid. The Hundred Years' War on Palestine: A History of Settler-Colonial Conquest and Resistance, 1917-2017. New York: Metropolitan Books, 2020. pp. xiii + 319. eBook. $12.99.
This is a strong overview of the major political and military events between Palestine and its occupier from 1917 to 2017. It’s by no means comprehensive — Khalidi structures the book around six “declarations” of war by Israel on the Palestinian people, which is the lens he offers his insight through — but it’s a good introduction. The first two chapters are slow going, but chapters three through five are excellent; there we see the narrative partly through Khalidi’s own eyes, and get some of Palestine’s cultural history along with it. There’s little here about everyday life or the social side of things, though — it’s entirely Palestine/Israel relations.
