On Invisible Planets
Liu, Ken, ed. Invisible Planets: An Anthology of Contemporary Chinese Science Fiction in Translation. Translated by Ken Liu. New York: Tor Books, 2016. pp. 383. eBook. $19.99.
This is an excellent collection of Chinese science fiction in translation — the first of its kind, I believe, with many others since. The standouts are the stories by Chen Qiufan, Xia Jia’s “A Hundred Ghosts Parade Tonight,” and Hao Jingfang’s “Folding Beijing,” my single favorite. It closes with a few essays on science fiction in China by three of the contributors. I ate this up, and I can’t wait to get to the other collections.
