On Immediate Family
Mann, Sally. Immediate Family. London: Phaidon, 1992. Paperback.
Supremely uncomfortable to look at. I don’t know what it is—critics have discussed how Mann depicts her children in an almost “sensual” manner, but I don’t think that’s quite it. Perhaps it’s simply looking at the closeness of family life from the outside—candids and embarrassing photos can be found throughout.
