I like this book better for teaching than a lot of other modern Europe texts—whether trade paperbacks or textbooks. Mason offers the main points while diving in too deeply, which gives instructors the opportunity to decide which other course materials they want to include for a course. For those looking for a lot of depth, this is not the place to go. For those who either want a quick overview or to pair it with other books, articles, and cultural artifacts, this is the definitive text to use.
