On Desert War

Moorehead, Alan. Desert War: The North African Campaign 1940-43. Sphere, 1965. pp. 249.

I was a bit disappointed with this piece. It’s pretty much just an eyewitness account from the perspective of an English journalist of World War II as fought between the Italians and British between Benghazi and Cairo. I was hoping that Moorehead would offer larger insights and that there would be some degree of coverage of Operation Torch and the Tunisian Campaign, but this really isn’t the case.

For someone interested in a journalist’s view of the War in northeast Africa, this book may come in handy, but it isn’t suitable for those studying the Maghrib in broader terms.
