On Introducing Philosophy
Robinson, Dave and Judy Groves. Introducing Philosophy: A Graphic Guide. London: Icon Books, 2014. pp. 176. eBook. $5.99.
This is incredibly surface-level coverage of (mostly modern) philosophy, to the point where the thinkers’ ideas come out barely coherent. It does a decent job bridging the continental and analytic traditions, but it’s wholly Western, and it skips everything between the Hellenistic period and Descartes. I suppose it’s fine for what it claims to be — there’s no way to introduce philosophy whole — but a great deal is missing, and it essentially ends with Baudrillard.
