On Le Petit Prince

Saint-Exupéry, Antoine de. Le Petit Prince. Paris: Gallimard, 2012. pp. 96. eBook. $4.99.

It’s been years since I last read Le Petit Prince, and reading it again now, for the third time, I’m not sure I ever actually read it in French before — shame on me. As always, the fox’s speech about apprivoisement is the most touching part, and it resonates more the older I get. Saint-Exupéry makes a real mockery of us adults all the way through, and it’s worth going back to touchstones like this so we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Life is too short for bullshit, and the story is a good reminder of it.
