On Maus
Spiegelman, Art. Maus: A Survivor's Tale: My Father Bleeds History. New York: Pantheon Books, 1986. pp. 159. Cloth.
Woof, this is such a bleak story. Volume 1 goes from the start of the war to the Spiegelmans’ arrival in Auschwitz (1944?). Spiegelman’s framing makes it incredibly human, and as the story goes on, you can feel Vladek and Anja’s increasing dread and uncertainty. I’ll start Volume 2 tomorrow.
