I never actually listened all the way through All Is Violent, All Is Bright, although God Is an Astronaut seemed to be a perennial inclusion in my playlists. In fact, I can’t believe that I had never listened to this record before, because it’s outstanding.
The title track, “All Is Violent, All Is Bright” is the best tune on here, but the whole album works well. “Forever Lost” is another great song, as is “Remembrance Day.”
The entire record has a darker, science fiction sound to it (which I suppose explains the group’s name), but it is also thoroughly progressive. While some sets of tones loop over and over again, they develop over time, and this texture makes the album really strong.
