Album cover for Random Access Memories

This album is one of the greatest that I’ve ever heard. I was in high school when it was released and, while I was already familiar with Daft Punk’s earlier records, this is the first one that I felt hit the right balance of avant-garde progressivism and poppy, sing-along sounds. “Get Lucky” is the song that hit all of the radio stations and received the most air-time, but it is far from the best. In fact, if a listener were to go into this album based on that song, they might be surprised.

The best two songs here are “Touch” (feat. Paul Williams) and “Giorgio by Moroder”; the latter being an homage to Giorgio Moroder himself, who pioneered the disco music that Daft Punk recreated so well.

Regardless of your own personal tastes in music, Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories is required listening.
