Terms of Service
This page is a statement about how I’d like this small corner of the internet to work–“Terms of Service” because the footer slot calls it that, more than because it’s a binding contract.
I believe that the internet is–and must be–a creative space. There is more than enough commercial content online, and I prefer to opt out. This is a political choice. I am not trying to sell you anything, and I am not interested in being “discovered.”
Privacy
This website stores nothing about you. There are no cookies, it doesn’t track you across websites, it doesn’t track clicks, it doesn’t track users. It tracks nothing.
The closest thing to “tracking” is the website theme change, which takes place throughout the day, but the information here is entirely local. It uses your system’s time to determine what theme should be pulled from the website.
My web host, Hostinger, does collect some basic information. It collects access logs, which include time, IP address, request, device, country, size (in bytes) and response time. That said, I do not look into these at any time, for any purpose.
Reuse
Feel free to quote me and link back. That said, if you choose to respond to anything that I’ve written here, please do not strip context, and please do not misrepresent me. This site is governed by CC BY 4.0. This means that you can share, copy, distribute, and adapt my writing, even for commercial purposes. It does require proper attribution.
AI
I use AI for refining my arguments, editing my writing, and surveying my code (i.e., the HTML, the CSS, and Hugo templating syntax). I find that–with good prompting–large language models are good at pointing out flaws in my thinking, including providing counterarguments. It sharpens my prose, although it has a tendency to make definitive statements over provisional hypotheses. It diagnoses what’s gone wrong on the technical side.
I ask that my writing not be used to train AI. If you want to scrape this site, please contact me first.
The longer argument lives at my AI policy.
Good faith
In return, I ask a few things of you. Please read my writing charitably. If you quote me, quote in the context of what I’ve written elsewhere. Do not weaponize my writing against me, especially things that I’ve written some time ago–my thinking changes over time. Engage with me as one person engages with another. Do not “extract” from me; I am not a resource to be harvested from.
Contact
For misattribution, a factual error, content concerns, or simply to correspond–email me. You can find my email address in the footer of every page. I look forward to hearing from you.
